Apple’s iOS devices come with a built-in flash that can be enabled or disabled to help take better photos and videos.
To enable the flash on iPhone 13, open the Camera app and swipe down from the top right-hand corner until you see a small camera icon. Next, tap the flash icon to access a menu with three options: Auto, On, and Off.
1. Go to Settings
If you’re using an iPhone 13 or any other iPhone running iOS 15, you can turn on flash by going to settings. It’s not the most obvious feature, but it’s important to know how to enable this so that you can capture great photos in low-light situations.
You can also control the brightness of your flashlight without any third-party app by enabling the shortcut in Control Center. Simply swipe down from the top right corner of your screen to pull up the Control Center menu and tap on the flashlight icon to instantly enable it.
It’s a good idea to set your iPhone’s camera flash to Auto or Off when taking pictures in low-light situations, so that it’ll only activate when it detects enough ambient light to get a decent picture. This will help avoid unflattering photos with harsh lighting, shiny skin, and red eyes, as well as unwanted glare and reflections.
On older devices with a home button (like an iPhone 6S, iPhone 8 or the original iPhone SE) you need to first open the Camera app and then tap the flash icon on the top-left of the screen to choose whether it’s On or Off. This will enable the flash for Photo, Video, and Slo-Mo modes.
The iPhone 13’s front-facing camera can take some great selfies, but they can look dull and lack detail if you don’t use the flash. This is particularly true if you have the selfie back case or another protective cover on your device.
In order to improve the photos you take with your iPhone 13, it’s essential that you learn how to activate your phone’s built-in flash, especially if you’re taking pictures at night or in low-light conditions. You’ll also need to be aware of how to disable the flash when you want to save memory on your phone’s camera memory.
There are plenty of ways to customize your iPhone 13. One way is by setting a sweet double-tap shortcut that can be configured to perform certain actions, like take a screenshot, launch the camera, open a specific app, lock the screen, activate Siri, or even siphon new apps off your home screen to the new “Overview” option in the App Library. To do this, go to Settings and configure the “Accessibility,” “Touch,” and “Back Tap” shortcuts.
2. Go to Camera
When you go to the camera on an iPhone 13, you’ll see a row of icons at the top of the screen. These include Flash, HDR, Live Photos, Aspect Ratio, Timer, and Filters.
The iPhone 13 has some serious photography features, including improved night mode, portrait mode, and macro focus. But that’s not all: the new iPhone 13 is also capable of shooting video with Cinematic mode, which adds depth of field to videos to allow you to switch up the focus.
While these new features are a big step up from what we’ve seen from previous Apple smartphones, there’s still room for improvement. If you’re a professional photographer, the best way to take your skills to the next level is to learn about all of the different settings and camera tricks on the iPhone 13.
One of the most exciting upgrades for iPhone photographers is the ability to change the lens in Photo mode. This is especially useful for zooming in and out when taking shots of small objects, such as flowers or animals.
3. Go to Flash
All iPhones, starting with the iPhone 4, have a built-in flash at the back that lets you take better photos and videos in low light conditions. In recent models, Apple added a two-tone flash that can help you capture better colors on skin tones and other details.
The flash is a great feature to have for taking high-quality pictures in dim or dark environments, but it can also be annoying. Fortunately, there are ways to turn the flash on or off on an iPhone 13.
First, you can use your phone’s camera app. Swipe down from the top right-hand corner of your screen until you see a small camera icon. Tap on that to reveal the flash button.
You can also turn on the flash through Control Center, which is available on iPhones with Face ID or iPad Pros. You can open Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen on an iPhone or iPad.
Another way to turn on the flash on an iPhone is to download a third-party flashlight app from the App Store. This app lets you customize your iPhone’s flash, including the brightness level and color.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, tap the flash icon in the middle to start using it. You can also toggle between automatic and simple flash modes.
If you want to make the flash more prominent, you can tap the icon in the middle to change its color. The app will also let you turn off the flash entirely, which is helpful if you don’t need to use it at all.
You can also use the flash for other purposes, like illuminating objects when you take a photo or video. For example, you can tap the flash icon in the middle to activate it for the camera’s night mode, which helps you take photos and videos in darker settings.
You can also change the speed of your iPhone’s flash, which is useful if you need to take a quick snapshot and don’t have time to wait for it to be completely dark. This option is also useful for shooting video in dim lighting, but it can be a little distracting.
4. Go to Off
If you are having trouble getting the flash to work on your iPhone 13 or any other recent model, there is a simple way to enable it. All you need to do is swipe up on the Camera app’s viewfinder until you see hidden controls that will let you toggle between auto and flash settings.
The iPhone flash is a useful tool when taking photos, especially in Video, Slo-Mo, and Cinematic modes. However, it’s not available when you’re in Pano (Panorama) or Time-Lapse mode.
Sometimes, the iPhone will disable the flash when the battery is low, or when it’s overheating due to heat or a high-temperature environment. This feature is called Optimize Battery Charging and was released with iOS 13, but it can be disabled if you don’t want it.
Another reason why your iPhone’s flash may be turned off is because the screen is in Low Power mode, which lowers its brightness and turns off some features. This can also happen if you’ve had to turn your screen off due to an accident, so be sure to wait until the phone is charged fully before you try to use it again.
If the above methods don’t work, you may need to perform a hard restart or enter recovery mode on your iPhone 13 to fix the issue. Both of these methods are similar, and both involve connecting your device to a computer using a Lightning to USB cable and entering a few commands in quick succession.
To restart your device, press and hold the Volume up button until the Apple logo appears. This will cause your iPhone to restart, and then it will reboot back to the Lock Screen.
You can also enter recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume down and Side button for a few seconds. This is a bit faster than the previous method, but it won’t allow you to reinstall iOS on your device.
If you still can’t get the flash to work on your iPhone 13 or other recent models, you may need to force restart it or place it into Device Firmware Upgrade mode. These procedures are similar to the ones above, but they require a little more patience and effort.
