Siri is Apple’s virtual personal assistant that comes preinstalled on all new iPhone devices. It’s an easy to use voice-based search function that also does many tasks in third party apps.
To activate Siri you can press the side button or say the “Hey Siri” command. However, Siri will only work when the device is connected to mains power.

Siri is the iOS digital assistant that helps you perform a wide range of functions, including sending and receiving messages, opening apps, searching the internet, accessing your accessibility settings and more. It’s available on iPhone 11, and later models such as the iPhone 12.
You can activate Siri by saying “Hey, Siri” or by pressing and holding the Side button on your smartphone. You can also set up the voice assistant manually via the Siri & Search settings menu.
As an added bonus, Siri can be used to make calls even if your phone is locked, so you’ll never miss a call – or a message – if your phone is lost or stolen.
The voice assistant can be adjusted to talk in various voices, so if you’re not happy with the default, you can change it. You can also turn on voice feedback to hear when Siri is confused or has responded incorrectly, and you can even add your own contact information.
If you’re having trouble using Siri, it’s possible that your device isn’t connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network, which could affect how it works. If this is the case, you’ll need to turn on Location Services so that Siri knows where you are.
Another way to fix Siri issues is to reset your iPhone’s settings. This will reset all your personal data and settings, so it’s recommended that you do this before trying to use Siri again.
Finally, if you are having trouble with Siri’s responses or commands, it’s important to read the captions that appear when Siri speaks. This is particularly helpful if you’re hearing impaired, as it will help you understand what Siri is saying.
To adjust Siri’s voice, language, and responses, open the Settings app from the Home screen. From there, you can choose to customize how Siri responds and how it shows shortcut suggestions within apps. For example, if you use an app every day when you wake up, Siri will automatically suggest that app on your lock screen for easy access. You can also customize Siri’s response when you say a command and disable it for certain apps or functions.
How to enable siri
Siri is Apple’s built-in, intelligent personal assistant that can help you with all kinds of things on your iPhone 11, including scheduling meetings, sending messages, and placing phone calls. It’s designed to be smarter than traditional voice-recognition software and can intelligently pair your day-to-day routines with third-party apps to suggest convenient shortcuts right when you need them.
To enable Siri, go to the Settings app on your iOS device and tap Siri & Search. Turn on the toggle switches next to ‘Listen for “Hey Siri”‘ and ‘Press Side Button for Siri’ on devices with Face ID or ‘Press Home for Siri’ on devices with a home button, then select ‘Enable Siri’.
When you first enable ‘Hey Siri’, the voice recognition will need a little time to get to know you. During this time you can choose to have the feature always on, or switch it to control with the ring switch (see Fig 9).
You can also change ‘Siri’s’ voice to male or female and pick from several accents. Once you’ve changed ‘Siri’s’ language, she’ll be able to understand your voice better in that language, which will make her more useful.
Similarly, you can choose to have ‘Siri’ answer your requests with spoken feedback or just visual on-screen responses. These are all available via the ‘Siri & Search’ settings in the ‘Settings’ app, see Fig 2.
One of the best things about Siri is that you can customize it to your liking. That means you can tweak the suggestions it makes throughout iOS 16, for example, by turning off suggestions while searching on your Lock Screen or while using the Spotlight search function.
In addition to these options, you can disable certain Siri features altogether, such as those related to notifications, showing in your app library and spotlight, and even sharing information with other people. You can also adjust your preferences for when ‘Siri’ suggests things, such as when she shows up on the lock screen or while listening to music.
It’s easy to customize Siri, but it might take a bit of effort on your part. If you want to use the ‘Hey Siri’ command, for instance, you need to hold down the ‘Side’ button on your iPhone until you hear the ‘Siri’ icon appear at the bottom of the screen. To make this easier to do, you can also choose to disable the ‘Siri’ icon on the ‘Home’ button.
How to disable siri
There are times when you want to disable Siri on your iPhone or iPad, especially if you have privacy concerns. Or maybe you use several Apple devices in proximity, and don’t need Siri to respond to all of them. Whatever the reason, disabling Siri is simple and can be done from the iOS Settings app.
First, you need to disable a few things in the Siri & Search section of the Settings app on your device. These are: Listen for “Hey Siri,” Press Side Button for Siri, and Allow Siri When Locked.
If you’ve disabled these, Siri will no longer respond to voice commands unless you manually activate it again. You can also remove all the information Siri has learned about you from Apple’s servers, which will erase your history of personal requests.

Siri is one of the most useful features on the iPhone and iPad. It can help you control many different functions, like calling contacts from the address book, dictating messages, and more. If you don’t like Siri, you can easily disable it for good using a few simple steps.
The easiest way to turn off Siri on an iPhone or iPad is through the Settings app. Simply scroll down the menu and tap Siri & Search. Toggle off the toggle for Listen for “Hey Siri” and Press Side Button for Siri (if your device has a home button, it’s called Press Home for Siri).
After you’ve disabled Siri, be sure to also turn off the option for Dictation on the same page. Doing so will remove your voice data from Apple’s servers, which can be a concern if you’re concerned about privacy.
iOS 11 and later offer a few other ways to stop Siri from suggesting things to you in the future. For example, it can be annoying to have Siri recommend shortcuts that you don’t need on your lock screen. That’s why iOS allows you to hide suggestions from the share sheet, prevent them from showing up on the lock screen, and even delete what it knows about you if you want to.
You can also block Siri’s recommendations in widgets. To do this, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and go to Siri & Search.
When you’re on the Siri & Search screen, turn off “Listen for Hey Siri” and “Press Side Button for Siri.” You’ll see a prompt that asks whether or not you want to stop Siri from working. Hit “Turn Off Siri.”
